The City recognized Arbor Day and our designation as a Tree City, USA, on April 29, 2022, with the planting of a California Sycamore Tree in Libbey Park. Special thanks to our partners at Ojai Trees for donating the tree and supporting this event, and to Chumash Elder Julie Tumamait-Stenslie for offering a traditional Chumash blessing. Mayor ProTem Randy Haney shared our Arbor Day proclamation, which you can read here. While Ojai is clearly a city of trees, we follow certain requirement to maintain our official status as one of the 3,500 Tree City, USA communities.  These include:

  1. Maintaining a tree board or department
  2. Having a community tree ordinance
  3. Spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry
  4. Celebrating Arbor Day!

Thank you to all who help to protect, preserve and enhance our community forest. Visit the Ojai Trees website for tips on caring for your trees, including important information on drought conditions and suggested trees for our region.
