Reminder: Leaf Blowers Should Not be Used to Clean Up Fallen Ash

Reminder: Although the City has lifted its temporary leaf blower ban, please remember that leaf blowers should not be used to clean up ash under any circumstances. Using leaf blowers to clean up ash makes fallen ash airborne. This increases the risk of the ash being inhaled by residents and animals.

After the latest winds, the City has seen an increase in aged ash, which is still hazardous to breathe. Please do not use leaf blowers to clean up this ash.

Ojai Citizen’s Academy to Begin on February 21

Ojai Citizen’s Academy to Begin on February 21:

On February 21, 2018, the Ojai Police Department will begin its 2018 Citizen’s Academy program. This is a ten-week course designed to give citizens an overview of the police department’s
function and operational procedures.

There will be presentations by a superior court judge, K-9 officer, S.W.A.T. team members, bomb squad, narcotic officers, search and rescue members, and many others. Participants will also have the opportunity to meet the Chief of Police and get a comprehensive tour of the police station.

Reminder: Area Code Overlay to Take Place this Year

On May 28, 2017, the CPUC acted to ensure that phone numbers continue to be available to meet demand in the geographic region served by the 805 area code by approving an area code overlay. The overlay will provide additional numbering resources while minimizing customer inconvenience. With the 805/820 area code overlay, customers must dial “1” plus the three-digit area code for all calls from telephone numbers with the 805 and 820 area codes. Individual Assistance Approved for Victims of Thomas Fire

The County and City of Ventura have been informed their appeal for individual assistance for victims of the Thomas Fire has been approved. The federal disaster declaration, original declared January 2, 2018, has been amended, now making available such programs as Disaster Unemployment Insurance, Housing Assistance to Individuals and Households, Small Business Assistance, Legal Assistance and Community Housing Loans, among other federal assistance programs.
