Street Sweeping Update

The City of Ojai has had three successful days of street sweeping, using water trucks for dust control (ending yesterday, Wednesday 12/20/17). The City plans to do the same on Tuesday and Wednesday next week (12/26 and 12/27), focusing on streets that were not cleaned and continuing to focus on downtown areas, schools, and care facilities.

County hosts workshop focused on Tenant’s Rights

VENTURA, Calif. – On Wednesday, December 27, the County of Ventura, in partnership with the City of Ventura, is hosting an informational workshop to help renters understand their rights.  The workshop will provide information covering a wide variety of topics including: tenant rights and responsibilities; landlord rights and responsibilities; unexpected rent increases and price gouging; and affects to lease agreements if a housing unit was destroyed or is uninhabitable due to the Thomas Fire.

IMPORTANT: HIGHWAY 150 CLOSURE on 12/20 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

SCE crews will be closing Highway 150 between Ojai and Santa Paula, tomorrow (12/20) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The closure is part of our restoration efforts. The work being conducted will replace an H-frame transmission pole at the Dennison Grade.  We are currently working with Caltrans on a traffic control plan, which will include three message boards advising of the closure, at the 126 10th street off-ramp, the 101 Casitas Pass off-ramp, and the 101/33 interchange.

Update on Small Fire Behind City Hall

On December 18, 2017, at approximately 11:30 p.m., a fire started in the barranca behind City Hall on City property. According to County Fire, the fire burned less than a half-acre of grass and trees. The fire did not threaten structures and it has been extinguished. The cause is under investigation, but it appears to be unrelated to the Thomas fire.

Street Sweeping/Ash Clean Up Update

The City will be testing out clean up methods to begin cleaning ash from City streets in the coming days. The City plans to do the following:

Arcade/Plaza/downtown area/Parks: Public Works crews have been targeting debris/ash accumulation areas using gentle broom work to minimize dust generation. We are water pressure washing some areas, though being careful not to generate dust.

Streets:
We tested a street sweeper last Tuesday. However, the dust suppression was insufficient because a lot of dust was being generated.
