On Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at the Ojai City Council meeting (held at Council Chambers, 401 S. Ventura Street) the City Council will present the 2018 Historic Preservation Awards as recommended by the Historic Preservation Commission. The 2018 Historic Preservation Award recipients are:

Twice Sold Tales – The Ojai Valley Library Friends and Foundation (OVLFF) are being recognized for the re-creation of the Maravilla Improvement Company (a.k.a Arbolada Land Office and the Ojai Valley Company office), which is the City of Ojai’s Landmark #21 – Twice Sold Tales Bookstore. This building, originally designed by architect Frank Mead, was built as the sales office for the Arbolada properties. Over the years it took the OVLFF to do this, they persevered and were rewarded with the Landmark #21 recognition. Our thanks to this diligent group in working with the City of Ojai, its commissions, and City Council in bringing this part of Ojai Downtown history back.

Dawn Thieding: Dawn was a strong and steadfast leader throughout the City’s process to develop a cultural resources ordinance. She worked countless hours on this issue for nearly four years and attended all meetings of the ad hoc committee and City Council meetings whenever the issue was on the agenda. She helped the City to pass a resolution in April 2018 protecting cultural resources.

Finally, the Lifetime Historical Preservation Achievement award will be presented to Terry Hill, for his contributions to the Historic Preservation of the City of Ojai since first being appointed as an HPC Commissioner in 1993. The HPC and the City thanks Terry for his 25 years of service on the City’s HPC and for the fine legacy he leaves to it.
