(September 26, 2022) We have been getting lots of questions and social media is buzzing about political signs. Local rules state that within the Ojai city limits, signs cannot be placed in the public right-of-way. They may be placed on private property, but you must have permission. The City encourages candidates and their teams to follow local sign rules so their message can stay in place. If a sign is removed, it can be picked up at the Public Works yard, 408 S. Signal Street, 8 am to 4 pm, weekdays.
As we near elections, Code Enforcement will drive through town periodically and look for violations. We started these reviews last week and removed several signs that were placed in violation of the City’s rules. The City does not investigate reports of signs taken from private property, but you may contact the police department for further investigation.
If you wish to report a sign within the City limits that has been placed on the public right-of-way or on private property without the owner’s permission, please contact our Public Works Department at (805) 646-5581 x120.
