The City of Ojai Arts Commission is pleased to announce the re-opening of “The Paint Box Project.” The Commission is excited to offer this opportunity for artists to add to Ojai’s burgeoning reputation as a public art destination. All Ojai Valley artists are invited to submit a proposal to creatively transform specific utility boxes located within the City into a work of public art. Three Paint Box Projects have been selected:
Project A. The Libbey Bowl Boxes: There are two side by side utility boxes located on the northwest pathway leading toward Libbey Bowl positioned behind the tennis bleachers. Both boxes are considered one project. The Arts Commission is looking for proposals that address both boxes in a unified theme and are relevant to the site.
Project B. The Libbey Park Playground Box: This utility box is located along the path adjacent to the Post Office and near to the children’s playground.
Project C. The Ventura Street Box: The Ventura Street utility box is on the northeast corner of Ventura St. and Ojai Avenue near the former Oaks at Ojai.
Applicants may submit a proposal for any or all of the three projects. Artist wishing to be considered must reside in the Ojai Valley and be 18 years of age or older. Completed applications must be received at Ojai City Hall by 5:00 p.m. on or before Friday, September 25, 2020. Postmarks will not be accepted.
